The weather was great and spring in Bulgaria was at its peak. Finally, we arrived at the hunting lodge, got our rooms, and Daniel decided to check the rifle. The rifle was Remington SPS Varmint .243win, equipped with optics Vortex Viper PST 4-16×50 FFP riflescope. The cartridge we selected for this hunt was Barnes TSX, 85 grains. Mouflons in Bulgaria are strong animals and that was the reason to choose stout bullet with good penetration. Barnes bullets are among the best on the market with always similar performance, quick expansion, maximum penetration and I would say also a meat-saver. After five shots fit in 1 MOA we decided to move on to dinner.

When you go for hunting in Bulgaria it is normal to expect that at hunting lodges you will try mainly venison dishes cooked in a local manner. We started with pheasant soup, grilled quails, and fallow deer stew with vegetables. Nutritious food was mandatory for good mood and energy that we needed for the hunt.
In the morning we had a quick snack at 5:00. Daniel was really passionate coffee drinker and really enjoyed the refreshment drink all the time.

At 5:30 we were at the rocks where we were to hunt his dream mouflon. Mouflons have adapted very well on the territory of Bulgaria – mild climate and rocky terrains contribute especially for their suitable habitat. Predator presence is a big problem for the mouflons. These magnificent animals originate from Southern Corsica, Italy where there are almost no predators.
The morning passed mainly waiting at highseat. Around 8:30 the hunting guide and the hunter decided to try their luck stalking. There were many females and young rams, but Daniel’s trophy ram was not there yet.

We went back to the lodge, had a very nice lunch and decided to vist the closest city of Varna. Daniel proved to be an avid photographer and really wanted to take some good photographs of the cathedral at the city center. In the afternoon we had several big mugs of coffee and headed back to hunting. The situation was similar to the morning. There were some females and two males with trophies around 70-72 cm. Daniel wanted to hunt gold medal mouflon and we were after ram with 80+cm trophy length. Hunting guide and Daniel decided to check a close wheat field where mouflons liked to feed. That was the right strategy because there was a big herd of mouflons there. There were 5 nice males standing close to the forest on the right side of the wheat field. First male of the group was over 10 years old and he head scars on his horns showing he was old warrior. The length was also matching his age – over 80cm. The rangefinder reported 142 meters. Daniel was holding comfortably the rifle on the bipod and waiting for the ram to stand sideways for ethical and secure shot. That was a long waiting – it took 6 minutes for the ram to turn and stop for a second. Daniel was raised in Zimbabwe and was hunting 25 years all African animals. The experience and routine he had left no doubt that the shot will be easy. 85 grains Barnes bullet left the barrel with 900 m / sec and penetrated the animal into the lungs. Mouflon was dead on the spot.

CIC assessment later confirmed our assumptions – gold medal with 206 CIC points. The horns were long averaging of 82.5 cm, which proved the good genetics and proper management of mouflon in Bulgaria. We saw the scars on the horns at close. It was really old and leading male of the herd. Daniel was very excited and told me that his fellow hunters who are also keen on hunting rams would be very impressed with the great trophy, taken in Bulgaria.

We spent the remaining few days sightseeing. We visited Old Dobrich, cape Kaliakra, city of Constanta, Romania, Kotel, Zheravna, Nessebar, the Rila Monastery. Daniel bought a great carpet, made in the old traditional method in the town of Chiprovci.

Next day was Daniel’s last one in Bulgaria. I gave him a ride to Sofia Airport where he was flying to Washington with Frankfurt connection flight.
I am always very happy after successful hunt in Bulgaria with foreign hunter. This is how we show to the world that our country is very nice hunting destination. This hunt was not an exception! All hunters are welcome to try their luck with us hunting not only mouflons but also red deer, fallow deer, wild boar, roe deer, chamois, wolf, birds!

Wild boar driven hunting is the most desired and waited type of hunting among all Bulgarian and European hunters. It is traditional hunt on the Old Continent and attracts hunters with its emotion, dynamics, and adrenalin. Shooting the fast running boars is a real challenge even for well trained and experienced shooters.
It is necessary for the hunter instantly to judge the gender of the boar, its age, distance to it,
and last but not least where to aim so the hit to be in lethal zone.
The wild boar driven season for wild boars in Bulgaria ends February 28th. This is the reason why we always have bookings for the last few days. Many hunters just cannot get enough of the adventure and adrenaline called wild boar driven hunting. We had six hunters for this drive and on Friday we arrived at the hunting lodge of Hunting Area Zabardo. It is situated in the heart of the mystique Rhodope Mountains. The landscapes are truly breathtaking and the wildlife is abundant. The Rhodope are the most lyric mountain combined oval shape landscapes, all tones of colours, and spectacular scenes and villages. Pinetree forests are abundant here with steep and rocky slopes, visibility is greatly limited and instinct shooting is required on the very few open spaces such as the forest roads.

The hunters chose their rooms and we were ready for the dinner. The fireplace is on, it was snowing outside and everything was like in heaven.
The hunters had requested some traditional folklore music and I invited a bagpiper with traditional Bulgarian bagpipe and a folklore singer. The music was majestic. We had a wonderful evening and everybody was eager to see what the next day had to offer.

The day starts with equipment preparation for each hunter – the clothes and booths, the rifle and riflecase, and ammunition. Over 80% of Bulgarian hunters are using shotguns for the driven hunts. The hunters that day have chosen rifles in the most popular calibers –
.308winchester, .30-06Sprg, 9,3×62, and .300win mag. Choosing the caliber is strictly individual matter and each hunter chooses his according to his experience, preferences, and the hunting ground.
We had a strict instruction on safety rule, discipline, and the animals that were allowed for shooting. The area manager is young and very ambitious professional that has been thinking about even small details. At 8:30 the drive was on, the hunters were at their posts and it did not take long before the first shots. Terrains are very steep in the Rhodope mountains and this is not a place where you can have a daily bag of 30-40-50 wild boars. The region is best in terms of wild boar genetics. The previous tusks world record is from here and definitely here is the place for a big trophy wild boar. We finished the day with 12 wild boars, two of which were male tuskers and one was a medal class keiler. Because of the steep slopes and terrain the boars were collected and brought close to the lodge when the day was gone but we still took several photos.

Wild boar driven hunting cannot be explained or described – it has to be experienced! It is magic, passion, way of life! The emotion is passed on generation after generation and only in the forest, the young hunter becomes experienced after his next meeting with that ferocious keilers.
That feeling is bringing us in the forest again and again in snow, fog, cold, searching for the dreamt keiler. Here comes the end of our hunt, but not the end of our meetings!
Because…The best hunt is still to come!!!

Mouflon hunting is one of the preferred trophy hunts that can be organized in Bulgaria.
Mouflons are spectacular animals and rams are magnificent looking with some kind of magic. Ram hunting is very popular through around the world and the European mouflon hunting is gaining popularity also. Bulgaria offers great mouflon hunting opportunities. Mouflons average horn length is around 80 cm for grown males but there are animals that can have 98-101cm.

One of the best mouflon hunting destination in Bulgaria is Hunting Area Balchik. Hunting Area Balchik is situated in the North-Eastern part of Bulgaria. The nearest airport city is Varna – 40 km away. Balchik has 7500 ha big game hunting area and 130 000 ha small game hunting area. Balchik offers great hunting opportunities in terms of game species variety – mouflon, fallow deer, wild boar, roe deer, pheasant, woodcock, duck, geese, quail, turtle dove.
Usually the hunt is done by stalking and then waiting on a highseat. Mouflons are herd animals and it is easy for them to protect themselves from stalkers. That is the reason why highseat mouflon hunting gives the best results. Anyway, stalking close to the highseat is very emotional and sometimes effective.

We recommend calibers from .243win and bigger for hunting mouflons in Bulgaria. Another attractive thing about mouflon hunting is that it can be done all year round because the rams are not loosing their horns as antlered game animals.
Hunting Area Balchik offers great mouflon trophy animals for hunting. It is an area with one of the most stable mouflon population. The area is close to the shores of Black sea /10km/. This is the reason why we recommend summer combined hunting – mouflons and roe deers. The other benefit of hunting in Balchik is that close to it there are beautiful summer resorts with magnificent beaches and the mouflon hunting trip can be combined with unforgettable summer family vacation. Sightseeing also is a must in that area. Rock sea cliffs offer breathtaking views of a lifetime.

We made two wild boar driven hunts in Bulgaria at 30.11 and 14.12. The result was obvious in the attached photos. The hunters’ groups were compact and that allowed us to make 4 drives every day. On the first hunting day we were able to shoot 5 wild boars and on the second hunting day our hunters made 25 shots targeting a 50-60 wild boars sounder and 8 were shot successfully.

Датите за лова бяха запазени доста преди сформирането на бойната група, понеже ДУ “Студен Кладенец” е едно от малкото места, където интереса за лов е постоянен и датите бързо свършват.
Тръгнахме в петък към стопанството аз и група от пет ловци – Минко, Вълчан, Венци, Жуд и Радо.
Дългият път си заслужаваше и след 4-часов маршрут пристигнахме в новия ловен дом, открит през 2012 г. Правеше впечатление уютната и луксозна атмосфера на механата, стаите и дневната зала. Всичко беше изпипано до най-малкият детайл.
Жуд и Венци нямаха търпение и още веднага решиха да пробват късмета си с ловните водачи Мехмед и Весо. При наличието на толкова животни слуката не закъсня и двамата се разписаха с по едно лопатарско теле.
След следобедното издебване се събрахме на вечеря в ловния дом и с приповдигнато настроение се заредиха наздравица след наздравица. Нашият домакин г-н Шереметев сподели организацията за следващия ден и ни разказа интересни истории за лова и гледната точка на дивечовъда.
На следващия ден всеки ловец пое с ловния си водач на издебване на заявените от него животни. Около ловната база лопатарите бяха изключително спокойни, понеже не се ловуваше, но в ловните места съвсем не беше така. Въпреки това, наличието на толкова сериозна популация предвещаваше пореден успешен ден.
Минко успя да отстреля теле и шилар, а Жуд направи хеттрик – две телета и един шилар.
Радо и Вълчан и те отстреляха по едно теле, а Венци и той две животни.

И аз да разкажа как протече този уикенд.
Тръгнахме с Вълчан и още един наш приятел от Троян към стопанството, пътя беше доста дълъг и изморителен но мисълта за лов и сладки раздумки на масата ни крепеше и натискахме газта на джипа, но за зла участ той се счупи на 20 километра преди стопанството и позакъсняхме малко, но след бързата намеса на нашите приятели и домакините от стопанството организираха предвижването ни до ловния дом и подсигуриха майстор да отремонтира джипа в неделя за да можем да си тръгнем от там. Пристигнахме в ловния дом и там ни посрещнаха хората от екипа който щеше да се погрижи за нашето приятно изкарване през уикенда. Вечерта премина в сладки приказки на маса с вкусни ястия, ракии и вина, направихме стратегията за следващия ден и се прибрахме да си почиваме.

Станахме рано и всеки пое със своя водач на лов, аз дебнах един един шилар около един час, три пъти ми излиза и ме усеща, но последва четвъртата ни среща и това беше последния миг за него след изстрел от 132 метра, животните бяха на групи и издебването не е лесно, като се има в предвид, че постоянно има постови в групата които да наблюдават за опасности.

Отстрелях и един приплод, но за него няма да разказвам.

Имаше доста следи от присъствие на вълци в района, но за жалост на хайката в неделя никой не извади късмет да си отстреля вълк.

Много красива природа и присъствието на белоглавия лешояд и египетския лешояд го правят неповторимо.

Искам да благодаря на Стефан за страхотното прекарване, компанията беше страхотна, базата в която бяхме настанени, и обслужването също бяха на високо ниво. За пореден път се убеждавам, че максимата ” Ловът несподелен с приятели си е пълна загуба на време” си важи с пълна сила. Много емоции, много шеги….ловен адреналин, за някой дори в повече…. Ловната територия на стопанството е уникална, страхотна красота, представете си кръжащи огромни лешояди, стада елени навсякъде около теб, огромни скални масиви….Между другото си признавам, че в началото бях скептично настроен, още не бяхме навлезли в границите на стопанството и виждахме пасящи кошути и телета на няколко метра от автомобила. Оказа, се че това са така наречените рекламни еленчета, в реална бойна среда обаче нещата бяха други, в ловните райони, животните трудно ги приближавахме на 150-200м. Искам да спомена, и че това беше първото бойно кръщене на моя приятел Роко, пресен ловец, на няколко месеца, който имаше в актива си само няколко пъдпъдъка. В събота бате Роко успя да отстреля хладнокръвно от 150м. дистанция един приплод. Имахме желание да стреляме и по някое рогато еленче, но времето не позволи да намерим подходящия. Аз също се записах с едно приплодче, много силен вятър се появи и накара животните да се скрият в гората това сериозно попречи на ловната ни слука.

С гласът на Райчо Ганчев се събудих сутринта в петък, когато трябваше да чакам Стефан и Венци да дойдат да ме вземат, за да тръгваме на лов. Към 5 часа вече бяхме в стопанството, на входа ни посрещнаха любезно две телета, които ни позволиха даже да ги снимаме – това бяха рекламните агенти на стопанството.
Набързо се качих с Мехмед Пайтар и тръгнахме в издебване на шилар, дълго търсихме, но такъв не бе намерен, (видях повече от 200-300 кошути и техни теленца, но шилари и мъжкари не видяхме и така тъкмо преди да ни се измъкне вечерта реших да отстрелям едно теле, речено сторено.
В събота сутринта тръгнах отново с Мехмед и от начало видяхме един много хубав елен лопатар с рога като на благороден и до като се консултирахме какво да правя то взе че ни усети и побегна. Оттам почна едно издебване цели 3 часа по него и все не можех да го взема на мушка. Лопатарът бе предупреждаван от другите кошути за опасност. Така приключи сутрешното издебване без успех, но с голям ентусиазъм за вечерния лов
Вечерта не се сдържах и тръгнахме още в 3 часа за един по-далечен район, отне ни час път с кола. Спряхме на избраното място, погледнахме с бинокъла и видяхме в далечината един шилар и тръгнахме към него лека по лека. Напредвахме бавно, но след като ни видя побегна и влезна в горичката, но за миг спря и куршума полетя към вратът му. Животното не разбра какво стана – разстоянието бе около 80 метра. Последваха снимки със слуката ни.

За съжаление в неделя не успяхме да вдигнем вълци на хайката. Вдигнаха се глиган, тазгодишни прасета, лопатари, лисици, но не и чаканите от нас хищници.

Следобед стегнахме багажа и се отправихме доволни и заредени с много емоции към домовете. Така завърши успешно този тридневен ловен излет.

After the booking confirmation I called the area manager to fix the date for the pheasant hunt. Hunting Area Chekerica offers great small game hunting and the decision to hunt there was taken easily. Convenient date for the three hunters was October 21 – Monday.
At 8:00 we arrived at the farm, and while filling the hunting permits we had a mug of hot coffee. The hunt began at 8:45.
The main places where looking for pheasants were densely overgrown fields and thorns and around the canals built for irrigation. Had tramped and a field of sorghum.
Hunting helped us two hunting with a total of 4 dogs that turns 2×2 to be able to have full effect throughout. Three dogs were two wirehaired german dogs and an epagneul breton. It did not take long before the hunters managed to harvest 19 pheasants and a partridge. The hot weather was unusual for October and that was a big problem for the pointing dogs’ work but the results were there and the mood was upbeat.
Around 13:00 we finished hunting and headed to the hunting lodge tired but happy with the pleasant outing. We had additional fatigue from past hunting weekend we spent at the Hunting Area Zabardo hunting for wild boar, which was also very successful.
Obligatory photos followed with hunters and four-legged helpers, to save this beautiful hunting memory. We have commented many times with my colleagues the importance of the beautiful picture taken after a successful hunt. The memory fades with time, but beautiful photo keeps it alive for a long time. That is why do not miss the opportunity to capture your best moments to enjoy them longer.

Sometime ago I was contacted by Dobromir Nedkov – manager of Hunting Area Mazalat for possible cooperation. I was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm of this young man who was proactive and wanted things he managed “to happen.”

It was about time to visit the hunting area with fellow hunters. The two hunters had their date 13.11 suitable for day to do the hunting of small game /pheasant, partridge, hare /.

Ever since our arrival in Trankovo / Small game part of the farm / got the great surprise of accommodation conditions, the hunting lodge, every detail was thought out to the smallest detail.
Three houses were built from scratch to accommodate visitors and hunters. The hunting dining hall was with a lot of trophies, very cozy indeed. The atmosphere was very cozy and the cuisine at a very high level. The pheasant soup took all the superlatives by the hunters.

The plan was to hunt pheasant, partridge, hare. Hunting territory was covered with dense and overgrown channels – the perfect habitat for pheasants. The dogs were only wirehaired pointing breed and worked very well. There were two young recruits who were taught by experienced dogs.
Two more hunters joined our group and we decided to check small and dense forest. We saw two pheasants and a hare. I was also with my finger on the trigger but with the camera. It was an interesting series of photos. A jackal and a hare run around 80-100 meters away from the nearest hunter but shooting was meaningless.
Tired but full of positive emotions we went back to the city with the idea to come back soon. Thank Dobromir Nedkov for the warm welcome and his attention to each detail of the hunt.

Вълчицата се оказва 28 килограма. Това е седемнадесетия вълк в неговата кариера и за пореден път се потвърждава максимата, че най-доброто оръжие на ловеца е неговото търпение.

Чакалата в ЛС Леденика са изграденi на дълго наблюдавани и работещи вълчи пътеки, но се застървява допълнително за увеличаване шансовете за среща с тези мистични хищници. Това от една страна прави ловът малко по-труден заради необходимостта от постоянно наблюдение на ливадите пред чакалата, но от друга подобрява шансовете. Както всички знаем, ловът на вълци е трудно начинание и лесен трофей във вълчата варда няма.

За 2011 година имам 70 цели нощи чакане на стървилище и видени 5 вълка. 4 от тях съм стрелял. Равносметката е 3 убити и един сериозно ранен, но ненамерен. Целонощната варда изисква от ловеца неимоверно търпение и мотивация, а в зимните месеци и сериозна екипировка за борба със студа, въпреки газовите котлони, които ползваме за отопление.

ЛС Леденика се доказа като едно от стопанствата с добро присъствие на вълци и ще се радвам да организирам лов на вълци отново из дебрите на Врачанския Балкан, където се връщам всеки път с огромно удоволствие.

Hunters from around the world want to come and experience the diverse and emotioanl hunting in Bulgaria. Bulgaria has strong traditions and offers 28 species for hunting on its small territory. You can hunt in Bulgaria red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, mouflon, wild boar, hymalian thar, bezoar ibex, capercaillie, wolf, fox, jackal, pheasant, partridge, quail, all kind of doves, duck and geese, wodcock, etc. Recently, we have hunters that would like to exeperience combined hunting in Bulgaria. The hunters from Lebanon was just like that
The three hunters from Lebanon arrived on Saturday and quickly moved into Hunting Area Ledenika situated at the Balkan Mountains, Bulgaria. The idea was to hunt diverse kind of game – quail, wild boar, roe deer as they mainly wanted to hunt quail. In Lebanon the main hunt was for birds and big game hunting for them was somewhat unknown.

We was about to hunt quails at the highest meadows of the area, where in recent years have proved to be one of the few places in Bulgaria with exceptional quantities of quail. High altitude / over 1400 meters altitude /, the cooler temperatures / morning 15-17 degrees / green and vast meadows, overgrown with ferns and dense grasses were promising enough for our guests’ hunting expectations. The manager of the hunting area has well trained pointer dogs with a stone-dead stand and excellent retrieving skills. Hunting quails began early at dawn, which does not reflect very well on hunters from Lebanon, because the night before had not slept because of inconvenient flight from Beirut. We heard quails’ song everywhere and for about an hour and a half each hunter reached quickly the permitted norm of the day. Incredible mountain scenery, the abundance of quail, excellent working dogs, alternating stand after stand filled with satisfaction their hearts. Hunters did not hide their satisfaction generously praising the work of the guides of the dogs. We took several nice photos. We went down to the hunting lodge in the village Zgorigrad and the majority of the day was reserved for rest of our guests.

we decided to try our luck on hunting roe deer and wild boar. Each hunting guide took one of the hunters and we spreaded waiting for the game animals that we were hunting. Guns were mainly military and not the best pick for hunting big game in Bulgaria- AR15 .223Rem, M4 .223 Rem, semiautomatic Franchi SPAS 12g., Steyr .308 Win. The zeroing procedure followed to ensure good shooting skills of hunters and correctness of zeroing riflescopes.
One of the hunters shot for about three hours two one-year-old wild boars and a trophy tusker with excellent and impressive tusks. He used Steyr rifle in .308win, equipped with Millet riflescope 6-24×56. Both were shot in the shoulder and the animals fell to the scene of the shooting. Trophy was 23.5 cm length of the lower tusks and with impressive width. It was sure gold medal.
The hunter who shot the keiler decided to rest in the next morning and the other two hunters continued with their two hunting guides stalking a vast, still green meadows. For about two hours both hunters shot at a roe deer as one was a good trophy and the other selection. The hunters did not care that much about the trophies since roe deer stalking was quite unfamiliar way of hunting. I would say that for me this is one of the most emotional and beautiful hunts for hunting in Bulgaria. The afternoon was set aside for rest and visit the spa complex Hemus Hotel in Vratsa. Tired of active and diverse hunts, hunters needed a good and nutritious food that was in abundance at the hunting lodge – stewed game meat, excellent meat appetizers and old drinks closed this hunting day properly.
We were driving in the morning at 5:00 towards the high meadows for hunting quails. Within two hours every hunter again reached the norm of the day and thus ended the hunt in Bulgaria. We had quick lunch and we headed to the city where we had to say goodbye but with the promise to meet next year again!
